Back in May 2018 Google announced a new predictive typing feature for Gmail. Later last year, this new feature was automatically activated for most Gmail users.
Unfortunately, due to the fact that Google’s new feature UI is highly similar to Lightkey's UI (i.e. inline text prediction, displayed in gray font), there might be a conflict that affects the way predictions are displayed.
In order to solve this issue, we recommend users to choose which prediction solution they prefer for typing in Gmail, and simply deactivate the less proffered solution.
Option 1 - Prefer Lightkey’s Predictions in Gmail (disable Google's feature)
Gmail’s Settings menu includes various customization options, including the ability to enable/disable their new text prediction feature. If you prefer Lightkey’s predictions in Gmail please follow the next steps to disable Google's feature:
Step 1
Log into your Gmail account and go to the ‘Settings’ menu.
Step 2
Once in the Settings menu, under the ‘General’ tab scroll down to ‘Smart Compose’ where you can simply turn in on/off.
Step 3
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on 'Save Changes'.
Option 2 - Prefer Google's predictions in Gmail (disable Lightkey for Gmail)
Lightkey’s Control Center includes various customization capabilities, including the ability to enable/disable Lightkey in specific applications. If you prefer Google's feature for Gmail, please follow the next steps to disable Lightkey's predictions in Gmail:
Step 1
Open Lightkey's Control Center
Step 2
Go to the the Preferences tab, where under Applications you can choose which applications to enable/disable by clicking their tiles. By default, all applications are enabled. Disabling the Gmail tile will disable Lightkey in Gmail. You can always open this menu again and change your choice.
