Predictive text in Outlook: how Lightkey works in Classic and New Outlook

2 min read

Yes, Lightkey works in Outlook, both Classic Outlook and New Outlook on Windows. As you write an email, Lightkey predicts your next words, up to 18 at a time, in grey right where you're typing. Press Tab to accept, or keep typing. It also suggests spelling corrections as you go.

How it works

Install the Lightkey desktop app and open Outlook. There's nothing to set up in Outlook itself: predictions appear in the message body, the subject line and replies.

If your organization runs both versions during the move to New Outlook, Lightkey works the same in each. Using Outlook on the web? Add the Lightkey extension for Chrome or Edge; it works together with the desktop app.

What it helps you write in Outlook

Email is full of sentences you've written before. Lightkey learns them from your own writing, so after a short while it offers whole phrases such as:

  • “Please find attached the signed agreement.”

  • “Let me know if you have any questions.”

  • “Thanks for the quick reply.”

  • “I'll get back to you by the end of the week with an updated proposal.”

Spelling suggestions appear above a misspelled word; accept the one you want, or ignore it.

Private by design

Lightkey's prediction engine runs on your own computer. What you type isn't sent to a cloud service to get a prediction, and Lightkey keeps working offline. That matters in email, where client, legal and financial details are routine.

Get started

  1. Download Lightkey and start your free 30-day trial.

  2. Install the Lightkey extension for Chrome or Edge if you also work in the browser.

  3. Open Outlook and start typing. Press Tab to accept a prediction.

Lightkey works in more than 80 languages and in virtually every app on your Windows PC. See all supported apps.
