Lightkey comes pre-packaged with a large vocabulary, covering a variety of terms and phrases in over 60 different content domains and industries including academia, technology, legal, healthcare, and more. However, no dictionary can ever be complete, as everyone has their own personal vocabulary of projects, places, people, and more. By default, Lightkey picks up new words automatically and learns how to use them as predictions or spelling corrections depending on their usage. In this post, we will review some advanced capabilities that can help you take control over your vocabulary using Lightkey, and control the way that Lightkey adapts itself to newly learned words.
Here is the list of features:
Enable Lightkey’s ability to learn new words only after repeated usage
Right click on a prediction to remove it from your vocabulary
Manage my vocabulary
Bonus: Drag & Drop your content directly into Lightkey
Feature #1 – Enable Lightkey’s ability to learn new words only after repeated usage
To activate this feature, click on Lightkey’s tray icon, open the Control Center, go to the Preferences, and under the Prediction tab check the Increase threshold for adding new words and phrases to my vocabulary.
By enabling this feature, Lightkey will learn new words only after they are typed several times by the user. This reduces the chances of Lightkey picking up mistyped words, as in order for it to learn this word one will need to repeat the same mistake over and over again while ignoring Lightkey’s spelling correction technology.
Feature #2 – Right click on a prediction to remove it from my vocabulary
In between time-saving predictions you may encounter a prediction that you didn’t expect, either for a word or a phrase. In that case, if you are using a Microsoft Office application (Word, Outlook or PowerPoint) you can right click on the prediction and click on ‘remove from my vocabulary’.
Once it’s removed, Lightkey will delete any trace of this word or phrase from its learning data, so you can be sure that Lightkey won’t offer it as a prediction again.
Feature #3 – Manage my vocabulary
To use this feature, click on Lightkey’s tray icon, open the Control Center, go to Preferences, and under the Prediction tab click on “Manage My Vocabulary”.
Once opened, you can remove unwanted words and import your words to Lightkey’s vocabulary.
Bonus Feature – Drag & Drop your content directly into Lightkey
One of the most exciting features that Lightkey has is the ability to import any content (documents, presentations, spreadsheets, etc.) by dragging and dropping it to Lightkey’s Control Center. This will inject your content directly into Lightkey’s prediction engine in a matter of seconds and can help deliver full sentence predictions. For example, if you have a bank of “customer support” sentences or a unique repository of medical terms you can simply drag and drop into Lightkey and immediately get full sentence predictions.
