Predictive text in Thunderbird: how Lightkey works in your email

Yes, Lightkey works in Thunderbird. As you write an email, Lightkey predicts your next words, up to 18 at a time, in grey right where you're typing. Press Tab to accept, or keep typing. It also suggests spelling corrections as you go.

How it works

Install the Lightkey desktop app and open Thunderbird on Windows. Predictions appear in the message body and the subject line, with no add-on to install in Thunderbird.

What it helps you write in Thunderbird

Email is full of sentences you've written before. Lightkey learns them from your own writing, for example:

  • “Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.”

  • “Please find the updated version attached.”

  • “Let me know if you have any questions.”

  • “I'll confirm the details by the end of the day.”

Spelling suggestions appear above a misspelled word; accept the one you want, or ignore it.

Private by design

Lightkey's prediction engine runs on your own computer. What you type isn't sent to a cloud service to get a prediction, and Lightkey keeps working offline. That fits Thunderbird users, who often choose it to keep their email under their own control.

Get started

  1. Download Lightkey and start your free 30-day trial.

  2. Install the Lightkey extension for Chrome or Edge if you also work in the browser.

  3. Open Microsoft Teams and start typing. Press Tab to accept a prediction.

Lightkey works in more than 80 languages and in virtually every app on your Windows PC. See all supported apps.
